D&RGW Subdivision # 5
The Denver and Rio Grande Western was a Class 1 railroad carrier operating from Denver Colorado to Ogden Utah/Salt Lake City Utah. Their routing was among the most scenic, yet challenging territories to operate and maintain. From the World Famous Tennessee Pass Route to the Moffat Tunnel Subdivision they crested many mountain peaks to make the assault through the Rockies. Hence their slogan, Mainline Thru the Rockies, Not around them. They were in direct competition from the Union Pacific to the North. They served as an alternative option for shippers.
One segment of the mainline that I have chosen to replicate in Trainz is Subdivision No. 5, The Green River Racetrack. This section got its name by having some of the highest speeds on the Rio Grande. Freights Regularly ran upwards of 60-65 MPH with Passenger trains reaching 70 MPH. Most other areas of the Route struggle to get above 50 MPH or even 25 MPH in some spots due to the railroad following many rivers and mountain sides. Trains left Grand Junction Colorado and began the 150 mile race to Helper Utah. Racing across the vast and barren Utah Desert, with the strange shaped rocks and sand mounds, not much vegetation nor life. Upon Reaching Helper, trains received Helper Units for the assault to Soldier Summit, Rio Grandes Crossing of the Wahsatch Range in Central Utah, the last obstacle to the vast and bountiful Utah and Salt Lake Valleys,
I have chosen to Model the Full 150 Miles from Helper Utah to Grand Junction Colorado along with the associated branches. However, with game limitations I will have to break the route up into Stages.
Stage 1: Helper Utah - Solitude Siding (Green River Utah)
Stage 2: Solitude Siding - Grand Junction Colorado
Stage 3: Potash Branch to Moab/Potash Utah
Stage 4: Sunnyside Branch
When completed I will offer the first Stages as barren, performance friendly versions, which I mean that the vegetation will mainly be around rivers and towns.
The Routes will have been fully textured, roads installed, rails installed, etc. just really light on the vegetation as most of the good desert scenery items become really performance heavy due to the amount of objects the game has to render.
The Routes will be mergeable
You will need at least TRS19 SP5 BUILD 117009, Jointed Rail's Tidewater Route, and Sherman Hill from TrainzItalia for the assets.
Currently STAGE 1 is IN PRODUCTION and is expected to release : TBA
- 10% Complete
The Denver and Rio Grande Western has been represented before in Trainz.
